the brown coach tote

Two years ago when I visited my parents in US, dearest husband introduced me to the premium outlet experience. Yup, it's the very same chain as the one we have in Johor but way cheaper even when you take the exchange rate into account. You can most definitely blame {cough!} our government {cough!} for ripping us off {cough! cough!}. If you're wondering just how much cheaper, do read on ...

roberto cavalli perfumed body lotion

If you read my post on Anna Sui's Secret Wish which I absolutely  and still do, you'll know that I  unique cool scents with a hint of fruitiness in it. You will also know that I am quite particular when it comes to the color of the perfume itself and I would never purchase a perfume with liquid that is in hues of red or yellow because more often than not they smelled very rich and are super heady and more often than not gives me a pounding headache within seconds of application.

But then Thelilacbox had to put this in their Valentine's edition box -  a generous 30 ml tube of Roberto Cavalli Perfumed Body Lotion. Le sigh.

lil' kai and his avocado adventure

I read online that avocadoes make great first foods for baby so I bought three from Jusco for lil' Kai - he loved it the first time I bought it and mashed it up for him with half a ripe banana. This time, I decided to go sans banana and apparently my little boy didn't quite like it. Alright, he hated it. Maybe I should just stick with adding bananas the next time.

Anyhow, here's what happened in photos - taken by the daddy on his fancy smancy camera and narrated on blog {with a tad bit of salt, pepper and a whole load of spices added} by the mama.

Lil' E : "Psst ... I think mama's feeding you bright green mush for lunch."

taking photos of the kids

So last weekend, dearest husband and I attempted yet again to take some fancy smancy photos of the kids without an urge to ductape them since he brought the DSLR back with him. After almost half a day of attempts in between brunch and the kid's nap time, these are some of the very few decent shots we manage to snap of the kids.

crabtree & evelyn's new tarocco orange with eucalyptus and sage

Crabtree & Evelyn is a brand I'm extremely familiar with -  it used to be seven floors down from my office and I could spend my lunch hour sniffing and trying out each and every product they had. Sadly, my haven of lunch time comfort and only connection to Crabtree & Evelyn in Ipoh is no more since a change of hands in management {no more freebies and goodies during company annual dinners too} - but on the brighter side of things, I scored a free VIP membership. So, every few months or so I'll be sent gorgeous mailers informing me of a new range and ongoing promotions and usually comes with a free sample.

This month, I received a beautiful mailer and on its cover is the new Tarocco Orange with Eucalyptus & Sage.

the definition of baby "gii gah's"

I think lil's Kai has passed his baby babbling stage and graduated straight to baby talk ... and he's only 5 months 3 weeks. Last night, I spent a five minutes "talking" to my baby boy and when I asked him what baby "gii gah's" were, he gave me a run down of what it meant and this is what he said.

I was a little stunned when he "answered", hence my rather delayed "Oooh!". My little baby boy is growing up ... definitely one of those moment where you wish you can stop time just for a little while longer.

are you ready for motherhood?

When I found out I was pregnant with lil' Ee three months after I got married, a few aunties commented that I should have waited a little longer and enjoy married life a little while longer. No offence aunties, but it's really none of your business - it's not like any of you are going to chip in and help anyway. Fast forward three and a half years later, I still hold true to that sentiment but 'Oh.My.Gawd.' am I exhausted! Having my first kid when I had just started my journey into the three-o zone absolutely knocked the socks off of me. Now after a second kid in my mid thirties, that same pair of socks is still on the moon and is about to launch off to Jupiter.

I guess I'll never know if I was ready to have lil' Ee three and a half years ago. Now that lil' Kai is almost six months old, I think the answer has eluded me long enough to consider it a x-File {insert creepy Mulder & Scully theme here}.

You see, I thought I was ready - finances aside because that is a story in its own - I read books. I stalked Google. I joined forums. I thought I knew everything. The moment I held lil' Ee in my arms, everything I read and got worked up for in the 38 weeks I was pregnant got on a jet plane to Houston and rocketted off to the moon with my pair of socks. Then when I found out I was pregnant with lil' Kai, I figured the experience I had under my belt with lil' Ee would come in handy but nope ... that kid with chubby cheeks and turkey thighs is a mystery folder all on his own.

Maybe if I read this article by Bianca London back in 2008-2009 and took the test, I may have figured out the answer. Oh well, too late now since I'm living it but perhaps it might help you to decide instead. Basically, it's a series of 14 test to perform to see if you're ready {and fit} to be a parent. I've changed a few details to better customise it to our local Malaysian culture.

{ project house-to-home } ideas for the kid's room

Time flies. It's a fact and there's nothing I can do about it except maybe gripe about it once in a while especially when you wake up one morning and realize that your kids seem to have grown overnight, or so it seems and you wonder where the heck did all the time go?

Well, lil' Kai is now 5.5 months old and I think it's about time to scoot all our little too-shies back home. After 5.5 months of vacating what was home to dearest husband, myself and lil' Ee, it now needs a lot of TLC especially with the addition of lil' Kai ... and I mean a heck of a lot of TLC. Ay, caramba ...

Ay, caramba or not, I'm now on a mission to turning our house into a home so I'll be starting a series of post dedicated to this not-so-little project of mine - talk about biting off more than I can chew - but someone's gotta do it.

Just discussing it with dearest husband the other day completely overwhelmed me - where do I even begin?! You can trust dearest husband to come up with a brilliant idea {or so he thinks). His answer and solution - "From scratch, dear wife. From scratch".

Well, dearest husband, this would mean carting out all the furniture we don't want and replacing it with furniture we wanted. Great, except that would also mean that I'll will be sleeping on the floor with the kids and cooking with charcoal in the porch if my dearest husband had his way. Men ... (>ლ)

skinfood's egg white pore clean pack

When I was a little girl and being a naughty one, my mom would tell me the age ol' phrase, "You'll know how hard it is being a mother when you are one yourself." I find myself nodding in agreement with her thirty odd years down the road - the only difference is, she only had me to deal with; I have two mini me's running around ... well, one running and the other one just learning to flip, but you get the drift.

Anyhow, in the almost four years of being inducted into the Hall of Motherhood & Snot Wipers, being a mother takes a whole load of sacrifice especially when you have to work full-time in the office. For one, I've had to give up on most if not all of my monthly indulgences - boutique hopping ... pedicures ... facials, especially facials. But being a woman {or maybe it's just me}, the vain gene runs deep. If I can't go to a facial, I'll bring the facial to me.

Since I started using makeup on a daily basis, deep pore cleansing is very important to me especially with my very prone to break-out sensitive skin. Right now, I'm hooked on Skinfood's White Egg Pore especially the mask but I'm going to post about the Pore Clean Pad today.

ten steps to losing 5kgs in 3 months™

I went back to work in November 2012 after two months of maternity leave. Since then, I've been getting comments on how quickly I lost the baby fat. Dearest husband even commented that I was thinner now than I was when we got married.

Lil' Kai is now almost six months and I've lost close to 8 kgs now. Everyone wondered how I did it. Well, here's how ... I posted this on my Facebook on 18 January, when lil' Kai woke me up at 3am and would not go back to sleep. I multi-tasked  ... a skill every mom will develop, over time.

{Not recommended for the faint hearted, and men.}

friends cafe revisited and still ♥-ing it!

When it comes to "family traditions" during Chinese New Year, my side of the family's tradition is simple - sleep. Whereas my dearest less-chicken-poxed husband's side of the family prefers to eat and during this Chinese New Year, we so ate!

But out of all the days we went a-nom-noming, my favourite was when we headed back to Friends Cafe - yes, we Chins cannot get enough of this place.

urban decay naked skin weightless ultra definition liquid makeup

I'm not a makeup junkie and on most mornings especially in the last year, I've not applied much makeup except to give a little definition to my non-existent eyebrows and a wee bit of lip gloss so I don't look like death warmed up. Well, that and because my pregnancy hormones couldn't stand the slightest scent emitting from any of my makeup products.

Now that lil' Kai is almost six months and I'm in my mid-thirties, I also have to face the fact that I don't have the complexion of a twenty-something. Going to work bare faced is not a sight I wish even my worst enemies. My dark circles could also rival that of any panda happily chomping away on bamboo branches. So, I busted out my trusty and only bottle of foundation; the Diorskin Forever Flawless Perfection Fusion Wear in 020 Light Beige a couple of months back.

Unfortunately, the formula doesn't work with the chemistry of my skin anymore. I loved this bottle of foundation pre-pregnancy but not so much post-pregnancy.

I found that my skintone had went a shade lighter because I'm always in the office since lunch is only an elevator ride eight floors down; it was a very rude awakening for me when I looked into the mirror mid morning and found my face darker than my neck. Eek!

The formula which previously suited my dry combination skin  started breaking me out because now I have oily combination skin - enough to fry an egg if I stand outside in the blazing sun. Double eek!

So with a heavy heart, I shelved my Diorskin foundation and went in search of a new foundation. I was torn between the Chanel's Vitalumiere Aqua and the Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Ultra Definition Liquid Makeup {what a mouthful!} but after a few weeks of debate, I finally decided on the Urban Decay's Naked Skin foundation.

So, what's the rave about Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Ultra Definition Liquid Makeup ...

burberry fresh glow luminous fluid base

I'm not a big fan of primers eventhough I've been told time and time again that I should always apply primer before foundation if I want a natural yet flawless look. I know I should but the one primer I did try broke me out so bad within two days of use, I swore off primers there and then as evil things concocted by the beauty industry to make more money off us women. Fine ... a tad dramatic but then I am still in a "fowl" mood due to Mr. Chicken Pox unable to make it back for Chinese New Year.

Then yesterday, I received four satchets of Burberry Fresh Glow Luminous Fluid Base in the debut thelilacbox {Thanks, guys!}

the lilac box - valentines 2012 edition

Alright people ... say "oooh!". Good. Now say "aaah!". Good. Because you're going to be "oooh!"-ing and "aaah!"-ing throughout this entire post. Muahahaha!

So, this morning started out like every other morning. Got woken up {again} at six by lil' Kai because he couldn't sleep anymore and decided kicking mommy would be more fun rather than attempting to go back to sleep. Then it was off to the office I went a-trudging at eight and all was well until mid-morning when dearest husband WhatsApp-ed me that he had the chicken pox. Seriously, this man's pox has the worst timing ever! So naturally, I was in a fowl mood {get it?} the whole day until I got back and found a parcel waiting for me ... something I had completely forgotten about.
