merry christmas!

Yeap, we survived yet another apocalypse so this Christmas is definately worth celebrating and both my elves kids has a blast ... well, I think the older elf kid did with the amount of presents she got from papa and mama. We Mama went a little nuts this year {totally blame the Mayans!}.

The little elf kid on the other end had a bit of a dry spell compared to his sister because he's still too young to appreciate mama's gift wrapping skills but he did get loads, and I mean loads of hugs and kisses which I think he enjoyed more.

Christmas morning was spent ripping presents apart. Everyone was oblivious to Christmas afternoon because we were all snoring away but then Christmas night was spent filling the tummy with food at Moven Peak's steamboat buffet.

So I guess, that's it for this post and here's my two little elves kids wishing you a Merry Christmas!

a dior-ific christmas

In my twenties, Dior has been a brand I avoided because of its couture status. You mention Dior in my circle of friends and you'll either get the "What?" or "Woah!" look. Then in my early thirties while oogling and drooling in Sephora Las Vegas, I purchased my first Dior - the Sérum de Rouge lipstick and it was lipstick at first try - I finished the dang tube in three months. I  the color, the texture, the tres chic packaging and the fact that it did not trigger any reaction on my lips. I have tried many different brands and most if not all has left my lips looking bee stung and sore after a day or two of usage. I also splurged on a bottle of DiorSkin Forever Flawless Perfection Fusion Wear Makeup FPS 25 SPF - PA +++ Foundation after coming back from US and I am absolutely -ing it.

So, now in my mid thirties and finally somewhat in control of my finances (meaning after a big fat bonus ... muahaha!) I decided to splurge on another item essential to my every girl's makeup bag - the lipstick. So yesterday I decided to drag dearest hubby and darling son to Dior's counter.

I was in the market for the perfect nude shade and since I read rave reviews about the new Dior Addict Extrême Lipstick the night before (I never go try anything out without reading reviews. It helps you purchase items wisely and with speed especially when you have a bored husband and four month old baby with you.), and after trying out 2 lipstick shades and 2 lip gloss shades, I got me these ...

the new box in town

{Update! 19 December} thelilacbox is RM 35 per box and yes, I'll definitely be subscribing. Oh yeah, if you blog about them, you get a box free. Just remember to let them know!

For those of you who don't know what a beauty box is, it's basically a goodies box choke full of premium beauty items that is delivered to you on a monthly basis. Some of the products included can be full size, travel size or sample size, although it will usually be a mixture of all three.

So, why am I rambling about beauty boxes?

Well, there's a new beauty box in town and it's in one of my favorite color too! thelilacbox will be launching early 2013 and boasts premium brands such as Marc Jacobs, Burberry, Chloé and Calvin Klein to name a few. I stumbled on them yesterday when I was catching up on posts on Facebook.
So, what does this new box in town has to offer. Honestly, I'm not quite sure yet because they'll only be launching next year but head over to their website at www.thelilacbox.com to register your interest and you get to choose one of the three freebies below:

a) A complimentary Burberry Beauty Makeover at Isetan KLCC {or}
b) Chloé travel size fragrance at Parkson Pavillion {or}
c) Calvin Klein Euphoria fragrance.

You can also jump onto Facebook and "Like" their page or just find out more about them there. But I suppose they've also summarized themselves in a nutshell for you:

a) The Lilac Box is a beauty box. Every month they'll introduce specially curated premium beauty and cosmetic products and send them to you in a box. Awesome right? It'll be like Christmas every month!
b) They're also VAIN - obsessed with looking good and making you look good. Vanity is good, right? It is after all a beauty box!
c) They's quite PICKY too and are selective in their choice of partners, brands, as well as subscribers. Picky is even better. Although, I'm not quite sure if they should be picky about subscribers ... Hmm.

They've so far featured some interesting products on their Facebook page. Not sure if they'll turn up in their box but I guess we'll have to wait and see.

No price has been announced yet, I think.  Either that or I'm too excited and high on Christmas to notice but I'm sure they haven't.

So, will I be signing up for a box when they launch? Most likely. Absolutely! I  receiving premium beauty surprises in a box. It's like Christmas on a four week cycle instead of a twelve month cycle. Find me a girl who doesn't and I'll be your monkey's uncle {have to stop reading and memorizing EL James' damn Fifty Shades quotes!}

Stay tuned for more updates!

projects piled up on my plate

I have been misbehaving blog wise and gone MIA for quite a while – I totally blame Christian GreyDamon Salvatore, the Big Bad WolfMango and the spirit of Christmas ... Confused? Me too but in a nutshell, the MIA is totally my fault. Well, that and I’ve got quite a few projects piled up high on my lil' plastic plate so I’m totally juggling and time hasn’t been on my side much. But then, when has it ever?

So, what’s been happening in my life the last few weeks or so?

Let’s see ...

urban decay naked 2 palette

Christmas came early for me this year because I decided to splurge on these two products that I've been itching to get for about half a year now. Introducing {with absolutely glee!} the Urban Decay Naked 2 and the Good Karma Optical Blurring Brush. I'll review the brush in a later post. Right now I just want to gush about the palette.

fifty shades of "woah" ...

I caved while browsing at the Popular Bookstore in Kinta City and bought a copy of EL James' much raved about "Fifty Shades of Grey" {RM31.90}. True, it's been stamped as "Mommy Porn" by some news agencies but I personally think it's much better categorized as "A Mind Vacation for the Working Moms".

My thoughts on "Fifty Shades of Grey" ...

lil' kai at 1 month 3 weeks and 1 day

They grow so fast! 1 month, 3 weeks and 1 day ago, lil' kai aka the cuddle bug came home all tiny and fragile. Fast forward, he doesn't fit his newborn sized clothes anymore, drinks like a horse and kicks like a donkey ... if only he still slept like a pig.

schwarzkopf fresh light foam color

I last dyed my hair some time towards the end of May. My hair was two toned due to me growing out my previous dye colour, it was horribly dry which in turn caused split ends, my hair felt like barb wire and there was absolutely no shine at all. After bearing with my two-toned cactus hair for the duration of my first trimester and an extra two months, I caved in and dyed my hair. I did it at home using Kao's Liese Bubble Hair Color in the colour "Natural Black" because I figured by the time I went into labor, the dye colour would be dark enough and wash off to match my natural hair colour so I would not look like the two-toned cactus while posing with my little man. I'm vain, I know. But I was spot on about matching my natural hair colour! However, I did not anticipate my hair looking so black that I literally looked like a zombie!

Pregnancy this time around did not give me that pregnancy glow everyone raves about. Instead, I was pale and after dyeing my hair I looked like Morticia Addams in the morning sans makeup; scary enough to give dear Gomez a trip to the mortuary every morning he woke up. Since I could not stand the scent of my foundation or lip gloss due to my lovely pregnancy hormones, I had to trudge to work looking like a zombie with jet black shiny hair for over a month. It was terrible, terrible times.

Now, after almost two months of tying my hair up in a bun during my maternity leave I decided it's time I dyed my hair ... again. Lesson learnt and while shopping for a new hair colour at Watsons, I came across this - Schwarzkopf's Fresh Light Foam Color. I already had a box of Liese Bubble Hair Color in hand but the kawaii Blythe doll on the packaging piqued my interest instead so I went home with a box of kawaii-ness in Caramel Brown.

clinique repairwear laser focus review

I managed to drag myself to AEON to redeem my one week free trial of Clinique's new Repairwear Laser Focus on Thursday afternoon after getting only 3 hours worth of sleep the night before. I was half expecting a snooty sales consultant and be given a very abrupt customer service because not only was I not going to purchase anything, I was getting something for free.

anna sui's secret wish

When I was about 15 or 16, my aunt and cousins from UK came home for summer vacation and I remember thinking to myself how good my cousin sister smelled every time she was near; it was Giorgio Armani's Aqua di Gio.

Then when I was 18, my then boyfriend (now my dearest husband) introduced me to the world of Ralph Lauren fragrances. He was then using the Polo Sport and gave me a small sample bottle of Polo Sport for Women which I was addicted to because it reminded me of him when he returned to Canada after his summer vacation was over.

A couple of months later, it was my turn to leave the nest for the Land Down Under so when I had a couple of hours to burn at the airport's duty free shops, I got myself a bottle of Giorgio Armani's Aqua di Gio because I still love how it smelled like on my cousin sister and Ralph Lauren Polo Sport for Women because I had run out and missed boyfriend dearly.

During my time in Australia, I had the opportunity to buy more perfumes to try on and almost a decade down the road I've tried out quite a few perfumes from Calvin Klein's CK One, Elizabeth Arden's Green Tea, Lancome's Tresor, Lancome's Miracle So Magic, Vera Wang's Princess, Hugo Boss Orange,  Gucci's Envy Me, Nina Ricci's Nina, Salvatore Ferragamo's Incanto line to a few of Bvlgari's Omnias to name a few. But if I had to choose just one perfume I'd favorite, it'd definitely have to be Anna Sui's Secret Wish.

what i've learned from my cuddle bug

It's now 11:58 pm. Lil' Kai has just drifted off to sleep after almost four hours of now which is his routine ... feeding, burping, diaper changes and cuddling. I am exhausted as I've only slept about 3 hours last night but my brain does not seem to want to cooperate and let me sleep so I figured I might as well blog.

October 9, 2012

lil' kai at one month

Lil' Kai is now 1 month and 1 week plus 2 days old today. He's growing beautifully and at his last doctor's appointment, he weighed in at 4.13kg; a 1.13kg increase since birth. He's also increased his milk intake from 2 ounces to 3.5 ounces in the last week, feeding every two to three hours.

mango has arrived

Last night was another long night ... again. My little cuddle bug kept me up until 3 am and woke me up every two hours to feed. Managed to sneak in a two hour nap in the afternoon and when I woke up, this was waiting for me at the bottom of the stairs.

My Mango delivery via DHL.

The interior of the box. Fancy!

So all in all, it took a total of 7 days to receive my order from the moment I confirmed my order and paid. I'm very happy with my delivery (size wise and quality of material) and although I'm most tempted to order more items from Mango online, I think I'll wait until next month to allow my bank account to recuperate.

October 2, 2012

mango came through!

After five days of diligently checking my inbox, I finally received a "Your Order Has Been Dispatched" email from Mango today. I guess they do stay true to their word and take a total of 5 days to process an order, as stated in their Shipping info.

Absolutely cannot wait to receive my order and check it out before I place another order with them ... again. Yes, I'm addicted to shopping online with Mango now and they've just got some new pieces in too!

September 30, 2012

doing the macarena

Today is an exciting day for the family as we got ready to go to lil' Ee's first concert ever! When I was pregnant with lil' Ee, I told dearest husband that I'm going to be one of those mamas who will always be at her kid's every concert and sports day and all the important events in their lives. Confinement was definitely not going to stop me especially since lil' Ee was chosen to represent her class of 1.5 to 3 year old in introducing their performance. She's been practicing very hard too the last few months.

The microphone wasn't cooperating on the day and although her speech got chopped off bits and pieces, I was super proud of my little girl. Oh, how she has grown!

"Good evening to every present at this concert. My name is Adrianna Chin. I am three years old. My friends and I are going to entertain you with a very special performance. So sit back and enjoy yourself. Thank you!"

And then it was on to the show ... the Macarena.

I think lil' Ee enjoyed herself thoroughly. As for my lil' Kai, we brought him along dressed in his Sunday best and like a gem he slept through the whole concert.

If only he could sleep through the night ...

more mango online

The lure of the Mango was much more difficult to resist than I thought and my bank account had to unfortunately suffer for it tonight as I spent another RM 367 on updating my wardrobe before going back to work. But I'm happy with my purchase and can't wait for it to arrive. Just hope I don't get a "Sorry. No stock." email ...

fabulous finds indeed!

Update 12 October 2012 } It's sad when you wake up in the morning, load Facebook and read that someone is sick and has to give up their passion. That's what's going on with Hui Ling, founder of Fabulous Finds  The September box was the last and although I was looking forward to receiving my first box in October, I wish her well and hope whatever it is she is battling that she'll stay strong and get well soon.

♥ ♥ ♥

When I was stalking Michelle Phan's website middle of last year, she had just launched Glam Bag {now known as Ipsy}. The Glam Bag lives up to its name, it's essentially a bag filled with deluxe samples and full-sized beauty products from all your favorite brands {and some unknown but just as great} for USD $10 a month - delivered to your doorstep. Sort of like a surprise to yourself every month.

Thanks to The Missus Blog, I found out that Malaysia has its own Glam Bag in the likes of Fabulous Finds. It pretty much works the same way.

Fabulous Finds is a beauty box subscription service. For only RM35 per month, they send out 5 or more deluxe beauty samples from high end and niche brands to subscribers throughout Malaysia. These beauty miniatures are lovingly packed in a luxurious box and couriered to addresses all over Malaysia.
Click here to read more }
The mechanics of it is pretty simple. All you need to do it register and subscribe then every month you'll received your Fabulous Finds box with 5 or more items, some full size! After, all you need to do is indulge and enjoy your products and perhaps show off a little to your friends to tempt them into subscribing.

Oh, did I mention you can also earn points by recommending friends; earning you a free Fabulous Finds box! Awesome, right? Bet your bottom dollar I've signed up. Will update when my first box arrives next month!

lé ... what?

You'd see these watering desserts and think they'd be super difficult to do, right? Wrong. Well, sort of not difficult if you're a bake-cheat like me who Betty Crockers most of the time. To add to my personal cheat repertoire, I bought these two from KwerkeeLékué's Mini Brownie Mould and Mini Cake Portion set for RM129 plus RM20 for postage.

Delivery will take a while, approximately middle of October because they'll need about 10 working days after the sale ends. I'm happy to wait since I won't have much time to bake now with lil' Kai still an adorable little helpless bundle but I think I'll be able to put it to good use during Chinese New Year with a little help from Betty Crocker {again} to wow the family when they're back.

So, what exactly did I purchase for RM149? Here's the breakdown.

September 24, 2012

mango online

I'm down to day 26 of my maternity leave which means I'll be back in the office in 34 days and with the way time just zoom past these days, it's not a lot of days left to mark off my need to do check-list. I will definitely miss both my kids but I also look forward to going back to the office because it would give me back some form of normalcy after 37.5 weeks of pregnancy and 8 weeks of diaper changes and feeding the baby, non-stop.

Don't get me wrong, I ♥ both my kids to death but I would ♥ to have a little me time back to myself ... too much to ask?

Numero uno on my check-list ... revamp my entire wardrobe. After 37.5 weeks of pregnancy, my wardrobe was sorely neglected. However, this is something I'm not looking forward to because I hate shopping for clothes in Malaysia. Apparently, boutiques and departmental stores here seem to think all Malaysian chics are stick thin and yours truly is no where near a stick figure; I'm about 60 miles off.

So imagine my relieve when I found EU XL sizes in Mango and they were online too! But to be on the safe side, I decided to visit my local Mango retail first at Kinta City to get a feel for their size and cutting. I tried these two on for size and ended up purchasing them. Very happy *grin!*.

♥-ing the diaper bag ... more!

Back in May, I posted about my favorite diaper bag but could not bring myself to spend so much on a bag. Yesterday, a huge box came via courier and inside was a gift from my high school classmate ... guess what's inside? Yup, the Skip*Hop Duo Deluxe diaper bag in Uptown Stripes! Totally -ing it and can't wait to use it ... {squeals in delight!}.

Sigh ... my son is so blessed. Thanks May for the lovely gift!

iOS 6!

Woke up Got woken up this morning, decided to log on to Facebook and saw a friend of mine updating about upgrading to iOS 6.0 ... of course I have to clog up the bandwidth in the house by downloading 887.6 MB of Apple's brand spranking new iOS *insert evil laughter here*.

September 19, 2012

♥-ing minerals

Literally.

After about a year of stalking the LovingMinerals website, I finally took the plunge and bought myself their Loving Sample Kit at RM30, Brow Defining Kit at RM50 and a Baby Kabuki at RM25. Delivery above RM100 was free and it only took one day via Poslaju. Super efficient service!

September 18, 2012

lil' kai's almost a month old!

Lil' Kai's is a little over two weeks old today and this weekend my little man will be having his first party - his thanksgiving and dedication; sort of a Chinese version of a full-month celebration but more westernized.

The last week has been spent slaving in front of my PC designing these ... lil' kai's invitation and birth announcement {and some online shopping therapy *grin!*}. No fancy smancy tools were used just in case you're wondering - just daddy's Canon EOS 7D, Microsoft Word and printed on mama's Canon Pixma iP4500 printer {Yes. We Chins' are die-hard Canon fans}. The cutting part was not my favorite because I had close to a hundred to slice and dice but oh well, a mama's gotta do what a mama's gotta do.

So now, the invites have been sent out and the caterer book {we're having a buffet at the in-laws} so all that's left is to wait and see if anyone shows up.

September 16, 2012

sweet deliciousness

When a brand put any product next to a cupcake particularly perfume, I'll be sucker numero uno to want to buy it. I've never been a fan of DKNY's Delicious range of perfumes until I saw this ...

September 15, 2012

things they don't tell you about motherhood

I'm not a first time mama but as I've discovered in the last week, there are plenty of facts during motherhood that books and other mamas don't tell you probably for fear of extinction because women might not want to give birth if they knew or because the mamas have wiped them out of their memory due to their traumatizing nature.

baby photography is tough!

... 'tis true! Baby photography is tough. I decided to venture into DIY baby photography for lil' Kai's birth announcement and after maneuvering both my kids with yoga-like moves and 140 shots 30 minutes later on hubby's Canon EOS 7D attached with a 50mm 1.8 lens, I only had two decent shots. Two!

I suck.

Oh well, I'm going with the first photo because my kids just looked stoned in the second one - especially my son *rolls eyes*. I now know why professionals charge an arm and a leg for kids photography.

Sheesh. Two?!!

September 11, 2012

breastfeeding ten days post-partum

Breastfeeding has not gone as planned for me with lil' Kai; the little fella won't latch on properly and when he does actually latch on, he falls asleep and I mean asleep. Nothing I do can wake the little fella to feed so I had to resort to pumping. Even that didn't go as planned because nothing came out. Nothing! Desperate that he might starve, I had to supplement with formula the first three days *boo hoo!*

Milk finally came in 3 days postpartum and I decided to chuck the pump and hand express instead because the dang thing squeaks every time I press the handle waking hubby and baby up. I could only get at most one measley ounce after half an hour and was as dry as a well in the middle of the Arizona desert. Needless to say I was surviving on adrenalin alone the first week after lil' Kai was born because all I could think about was expressing milk, milk and more milk for him every 2-3 hours ... even woke up at insane hours in the wee hours of the morning to be a cow. The joys of motherhood ... again.

I'm now ten days postpartum and although my supply has slightly increased to 2 - 2.5 ounces per 30 minutes session, I'm hoping it'll be more when my Earth Mama Angel Baby Milkmaid Tea arrives tomorrow.

Wish me luck!

OXO tot ... worth the spend?

My mom will be making a trip back from USA March next year and like all {or most} moms, she'll ask me what I want and she'll actually go get it. Well, that or I'll order it online here and have it sent to her and she'll cart them back ... postage free. So, with lil' Kai asleep most of the time (joy!!) I have been able to stalk a few brands since they are so freakishly expensive here {seriously?!} ... for instance; OXO tot for babies and toddlers. Here's a little bit about them.
OXO Tot is a new sub-brand from American Housewares Giant OXO, launched in October 2010 introducing a range of baby feeding, cleaning and bathing products; all designed to minimise the frustration of parents and toddlers as they transition from babies to big kids.
OXO Tot is a natural progression of the OXO brand which began in 1990 with a dozen kitchen tools and has since branched out to every room of the home and beyond. OXO is based on the concept of Universal Design, the philosophy of creating products that are easy to use for the widest possible spectrum of users.
One of the firm beliefs of the company is that products should be developed by people who use them. After all, if you don’t use a product, how can you understand what the true user needs are? When it comes to children, OXO recently gained quite a bit of experience. In the past five years, 25 babies have been born to OXO’s 54 employees at the head office in New York. With that experience comes a lot of passion and a lot of ideas.
As with all OXO projects, extensive user-based research was conducted before and during the development process. The Product Team examined every aspect of products, from how children hold handles to how they sit on chairs. They looked at types of materials used and manufacturing processes that would provide them with opportunities for improvement that would be the most meaningful to parents and children.
So back to the story at hand, lil' Kai will be almost 8 months when my mom sees him for the first time which means he'd have started feasting on my all-planned-out recipes for yummy organic homemade pureed goodness. I first saw OXO tot on Bubalot and I feel in love with their designs  ... like I did with Beaba, Boon and Skip*Hop (rolls eyes) and I'm particularly drawn to their feeding range especially these dishes/plates because I now have a messy eater who thinks meal times are like a spade to a sand at the beach.

The OXO Tot Divided Feeding Dish
The OXO Tot Divided Plate
The OXO Tot Baby Food Freezer Tray
The OXO Tot Baby Blocks Freezer Storage
So many choices I'm giddy with retail therapy joy {hubby just rolled his eyes at me ... again}. I just hope my mom won't get taxed too much of overweight luggage {but if you do, take a deep breath, remember that I love you and think of your healthy and happy grandson when he's eating yummy food prepared using all the above}.

lil' kai's birth story

My mum resides in US and since she can't make it home until spring next year, I moved in with my in-laws so they can help me with the my toddler and when baby arrives. Hubby came home from KL on Thursday, 30 August after work. When he saw how low my bulge got in a week, he commented that baby was going to come that weekend but I just smiled {and thought "Yeah, rite!"} and brushed the thought off. We made the move Friday morning on 31 August. There was the usual packing and unpacking associated with moving and that knocked me out completely by 8pm but no imminent signs of labor ahead.

The next morning, I woke up feeling like I got run over by a freight train. I blamed it on the move the day before and got ready for work dreading the next four hours in the office. I was glad hubby was driving me to work that morning because I did not trust myself behind the wheel feeling the way I did. My muscles ached in places I didn't know could ache and baby felt like he dropped a couple miles further down south. Walking felt exhausting and my Braxton Hicks contractions seemed to have picked up a notch compared to the day before. It wasn't painful, just uncomfortable.

By noon, I was glad I could go home. Hubby and I grabbed a quick lunch and he dropped me off at 2pm while he went to check on his car at the mechanics (his engine suffered a cardiac arrest on his way home). I managed to sneak in a few hours of sleep until 5pm when Poslaju woke me up with my Fisher-Price Infant to Toddler rocker delivery.

I was feeling better compared to the morning although my Braxton Hicks continued every few minutes of so from the moment I woke up. It didn't feel any different but I decided to time them anyway since hubby was  very sure baby was going to come earlier than my EDD which was slated to be on 19 September. He's also been asking me "Is the baby coming yet?" every time I spaced out (I usually do that when my Braxton Hicks hits) which got me paranoid and on to the bandwagon that hubby might be right and baby may come early.

The whole family went out for dinner that evening. I was fine until around 6.30pm when my Braxton Hicks got quite painful and they were between 6 to 13 minutes apart. Hubby decided to whisk me back to the house to shower and finish packing our hospital bag by 6.45pm because I could not sit through a contraction by then. We drove to the hospital at 8pm and by the time I got admitted and checked by the nurse at 8.30pm, I was 5cm dilated; 100% effaced and baby's head was at -2. By then I had to admit, hubby was right about baby arriving early and he totally rubbed it in my face the whole night. In my defense, I didn't have a bloody show, I didn't loose my mucus plug and my water didn't break ... again. Lil' Kai's EDD was still 18 days away! Besides, lil' Ee didn't make her entrance until 38 weeks so I didn't expect lil' Kai to until 38 weeks or later.

George was called in and arrived at 9.30pm. He broke my water bag at 9.45pm and although the contractions after were still bearable and I still did not have the urge to push after ten minutes. They decided to wheel me into the delivery room anyway to wait it out and they did not have to wait long because by 10pm, I wanted to push bad.

After four very exhausting pushes without any "happy gas" and a very small {according to George} episiotomy, lil' Kai finally popped out screaming at 10.13pm.

Born 37.5 week, he still weighed 3kg on the dot so I was glad he came out when he did because I could not phatom trying to push out a 4kg baby if I carried him till full term!

It's now three days postpartum. Although I'm exhausted from having to wake up half a dozen time to feed, change diapers and pump in the night, physically I feel it wasn't as tough on me as it was when I gave birth to lil' Ee.  Even my MIL commented I wasn't as zombified as I was previously. My episiotomy doesn't hurt as much this time and I can walk waddle around without grimacing in pain. Perhaps I was much more prepared this time around or perhaps it was from not taking any pain medication {including the "happy gas"!} but all in all, I'm just glad labor was only 4 hours and 45 minutes {again}, that lil' Kai is healthy and lil' Ee absolutely adores him.

look who's here?!

Baby Ethan Chin has arrived! Here's a photo of a very exhausted but proud daddy, big sister and my little baby boy. I guess parents.com was wrong.

Will update soon!

looking for signs of labour

Oh! The waiting ...

I'm nearing the end of my 37 week of pregnancy and I'm still pregnant ... only with a whole lot more discomfort and the occassional jabs of pain here and there. In some ways I'm glad my baby boy has more time to grow stronger but at the same time, I'd like to have some sense of normalcy back with  my body.

Hubby and I made the move to the in-laws yesterday and all the packing, unpacking and re-arranging has at least in my opinion thrown my body's out of whack rhythm even more out of whack. My Braxton Hicks' were much more frequent and was actually uncomfortable to the point of being painful; a first in this pregnancy. Usually, they were mild and bearable. The little one was also much more active squirming and hiccupping adding to the discomfort.

I think my poor hubby is getting tired of waiting too. Everytime I scrunched my face when a Braxton Hicks hits, he'll ask "If the baby coming?!". It was funny the first few times, but after 24 hours I just told him I'll yell "Peaches!" when it's time - I totally blame this on my hormones and my daughter for overdosing me on Disney's Ice Age; "Dawn Of The Dinosaurs".

I'm still working and this morning I decided to scour the Internet to an age of question of many pregnant mums - "Am I in labour ... yet?!" and my answer - "I don't know. Maybe."

According to parents.com, there are 5 Signs That You're In Labour and I've only been able to check 2.5 off the list so I guess I'm not in labour.
  1. Your Water Breaks.
  2. You're Having Strong, Regular Contractions.
  3. You Notice a Discharge. - Check!
  4. You Get Diarrhea - Check! At least once a day. My apologies ... TMI.
  5. Your Back Really Hurts. - Only when I lie sit or lie down for too long at a time.
So, I guess I'll have to deal with possible another 18 days more of pregnancy.

Oh! The waiting ...

the rume all ... possible diaper bag?

I'm still quite hesitant to spend RM238 on the Skip*Hop Duo Diaper Bag in Uptown Stripes and hoping someone would be kind enough to check it off our Baby Registry for us. But I am in need of a diaper bag because I'm quite reluctant to lug the heavy old gigantor of a diaper bag around anymore, especially with an infant and a toddler in tow.

So, off I went stalking my favourite online green store Tiny Tapir and decided to get the RumeAll in Teal. It's not a typical diaper bag but I think it will do the job pretty well. When the family went on a five week vacation to US ... I bought the a Mini Rume and a Medium Rume and after loads of heavy groceries, laundry and shopping from San Francisco to New York, the bags held up exceedingly well and has not even torn a seam. It's been two years since the trip and I'm still using the bags for my groceries.

Retailing at RM89.00 from Tiny Tapir, the idea of using the RumeAll as a diaper bag is beginning to grow on me. With a zip top, two elastic top side pockets and a zippered front pouch ... it's known to store tons of stuff and is machine washable. It's also super lightweight at less than 100g and folds small to take anywhere. Oh yeah, did I mention that it's also environmentally friendly?

Can't wait till this arrives in the mail. I think I might even get one in Fuschia for my MIL ...

ah goo baby plush pads at RM99!

Heads up, mums-to-be who is looking for a portable changing pad for baby!

Tiny Tapir is clearing their Ah Goo Baby Plush Pads at RM99 instead of RM119; a savings of RM20! The catch? The foam memory mattress inside the cover is slightly discolored, probably due to exposure to light which happens. I’m not sure to what extent but I decided to get one in Poppy anyway since the staff assured me that the discoloration didn’t smear onto the white plush cover and doesn't effect it's primary function at all ; it's just smudged.

Fine. Call me an el-cheapo but the foam mattress will be hidden by the cover anyway and if the cover is discolored; there’s always Google to help me find a way of removing the stains au natural or otherwise.

Hopefully, hubby will be able to pick it up together with the super hard to find Grovia Magic Stick diaper ointment tomorrow before he comes home for the long weekend. I love dealing with the staff at Tiny Tapir. I just dropped them an eMail last night and they're already on it; delivering the plush pad to the retail store tomorrow morning and making sure that my Grovia Magic Stick will be there too.

Will post photos and a review when I get my hands on them. Can't wait!

the start of week 37

I’m starting my 37th week today and to say I do not want my lil’ man out of me very, very soon (like in the next couple of days) would be an outright blatant lie. I am honestly quite done feeling like a beached whale in the last couple of weeks but waking up this morning actually feeling and looking like one was very humbling – minus the swelling of my legs, which I am wondering when will happen because then it’ll mean labor is near. In fact, I haven’t swelled up much this pregnancy. I can still take my wedding ring off unlike when I was pregnant with Adrianna. Hubby was worried that my ring finger might turn blue and fall off by the time the 8th month of pregnancy rolled around.

Last night my Braxton Hicks were still irregular but they definitely went up a notch in the pain department and this morning, I could hardly find the energy to get ready for work. My stomach feels so heavy and the muscles are definitely feeling the strain and mind you this was happening all day long – could all this overnight changes be impending labor in the coming days?

Stay tuned ...

26 days and counting down

26 more days to my due date. How crazy is that?! Writing it that way compared to “36 almost 37 weeks pregnant” makes meeting my lil’ man so much closer.

Nothing new happening with me this past couple of days. The work front is pretty calm especially with my boss outstation until tomorrow ... perhaps then all hell might break loose, again. I’m still working and will probably work until I go into labor but so far I’m glad to report I’ve finished what I need to finish on a day-to-day basis so if I do go into labor during the night, the poor girls having to stand-in for me won’t have much of a headache especially with my multi-coloured sticky notes system combined with a very lengthy email of instructions. My colleagues say I’m organized ... hubby is much more blunt, he says I’m a tad obsessive compulsive. Unfortunately, I tend to agree with hubby because I sometimes tire myself out unnecessarily by being too organized..

Pregnancy wise; nothing new either. Exhaustion still lingers on a daily basis but that’s probably due to my inability to sleep through the night without my bladder waking me up every 2 to 3 hours, to which I should not complain because I've read in the forum I frequent that some women have it worse; like every 15 to 30 minutes.

My next appointment with George isn’t until Tuesday next week for which I think I’ll still be pregnant because my lil’ man has not given me any signs or indications he wants out even though his squirms are getting quite uncomfortable for me due to him running out of room to do any yoga-esk maneuvers. My Braxton Hicks are still quite elusive during the day but they do pick up a notch at night. I haven’t started to bloat and my back hasn't started to ache – I’m beginning to think my lil’ man might not want out unless I serve him an eviction notice ... forcibly. Sigh.

Preparation wise; I am now living vicariously through my unborn son since I'm too preggo to shop for myself; can't blame me for being super excited that these babies have been checked off our Baby Gift Registry all in the past week alone!

1. Philips Avent 3-in-1 Electric Sterilizer - gift from Grandma Molly.
2. Philips Avent Natural Feeding Infant Set - gift from my boss.
3. Fisher Price Infant to Toddler Rocker - gift from my colleagues.

Definitely happy and relieved now since all the basics (and a bit of luxury) have been purchased. Feeling loved too because they are from family and friends. Can't wait to start using them and will definitely update with loads of photos and a review!

philips avent 3-in-1 electric sterilizer

It has been a quiet Raya holiday up until today when the hubby, baby and I went over to the in-law's to set up my bedroom for when I move in for my confinement.

All the packing and folding totally exhausted me out by mid-day but I got to check the first item off our baby registry today: the Philips Avent 3-in-1 Electric Sterilizer, a baby gift from Grandma.

Did the first trial sterilizing run on my Philips Avent Isis Breast Pump which I finally took out of storage after three years and I'm totally loving the interchangeable compartments depending on what I'll be sterilizing and the slim space-saving design.

Total sterilizing time only took 6 minutes and it was also very quiet compared to the Little Bean one I used when I had Adrianna.

At RM279.20 (after 20% discount) the package also came with a 4 oz. Philips Avent PP Feeding Bottle, an infant soother and an itsy lil' wee thong.

Philips Avent also made a 4-in-1 version which includes an additional basket for the dishwasher but since we Malaysians prefer the sink more, I didn't think spending an additional RM50 was fruga (LOL! I cannot believe I just used the word "frugal" ... this coming from a chick who hasn't had a single dose of retail therapy for more than 8 months due to pregnancy and experiencing a famine in the bank account.)

Can't wait to try out more Philips Avent products especially the Natural Range feeding bottles - they truly do live up to their moto: Sense and Simplicity.

Here's a little video I found off YouTube on the Philips Avent 3-in-1 Electric Sterilizer. Apparently with my unit, Philips Avent forgot to install the automatic interchangeable compartment with the hand clapping feature. Quite disappointed, but nevertheless it's still a stylish little nifty sterilizer. I also cannot quite understand the dancing though. Probably too tired to ... I prefer to just slump on top of the counter top or on the couch while I wait.
